May these words open your spirit,
bless your heart
and soothe your soul:
A Magnificat
My being proclaims the wonder of night
slowly inching up from the cold earth
grey shadow yearning to hold the earth in rest
And my spirit bows to the beauty of the One
who folds the day into darkness
and calls us into quiet.
Starry sky, indigo and deepening into dusk!
Glassy ice of river, snow-covered current
flowing eastward and north, seeking the
fullness of the sea;
Voice singing plainsong in fir and spruce,
whispering like monk in medieval hall,
lifting song of praise through cold and ice -
My soul rises up to meet you,
to sing in melody human and divine,
And my heart bursts forth, through the thin
veneer of a busy life
For all I am, all I have, is held
in the warm loving hands of a Creator who
daily loves me into deep living.
